Emergency Light Testing from Professional Electrical Engineers

Emergency Light Testing (EML)

Emergency lighting maintenance

All emergency lighting systems must be tested monthly. The test is a short functional test in accordance with BS 5266-1: 2011. The period of simulated failure should be sufficient for the purpose of this test whilst minimizing damage to the system components e.g. lamps, Batteries etc.

An Emergency lighting test will last the duration of 180 minutes (3hrs) this Involves us finding and testing each EML circuit to ensure that they all illuminate to the appropriate standard, operate as they should and most importantly withstand the duration of 180 minutes.

Emergency lighting is required to operate fully automatically and give illumination of a sufficiently high level to enable all occupants to evacuate the premises safely. Once we have performed the full EML test- you will be issued with a full report and certification.

Why would an Emergency light fail?

Emergency lighting can fail on a number of things for example:

▪️Dull lamps
▪️Non-Illuminating lamps
▪️Battery failure
▪️Loss of mains power
▪️Insufficient lighting etc
